The sweetest sound I ever heard

I heard today.

As if it isn't amazing enough that I get to be rewarded every morning waking up to this precious little face.....

today she spoke....to me!

We were standing in line at Trader Joe's and I knew she was ready to go because we had been in there about 30 minutes (Mommy has to read all the labels) and she had just woken up from a nap and was being so good. When all of a sudden, she looked up at me with those huge baby blues and said so articulately....
"mama"
like she had been practicing it for years!
Tears welled up and I wanted to go tell one of the many random strangers standing around us that she just spoke her first word and it was "mama", but I knew no one would ever be as impressed as I was at that very moment. So I picked her up, squealed with delight, congratulated her and told her how proud of her I was. Then I went over to the posh baby boutique next door and bought her this "oh so stylish big girl's talkin now" hat.

Her first word, mama. Yay Bayley, we're so proud!!!! Tonight at dinner she said ma a few times, next word is dada I just know it!!

just that split second and small word made my day like no other, but how could she not make your day with a face like this. We love you little monkey.

spongy

A friend of mine once said he felt spongy after I gave him a vitamin pill (long funny story) and for some reason I was thinking about that the other day and wondered what feeling spongy felt like. Well now I think I know. It must be how Bayley feels all of the time.
Lately I've been playing over in my head that commercial that says "90% of a childs brain develops by the age of 5" and keep reciting in my head the books that tell me how they are just little sponges taking everything in and learning things at warp speed. I know this is all so true and Bayley is my proof. Bayley has been like a little sponge lately, just taking everything in and showing us how brilliant she is. You can just see her little brain working as she discovers new things and then all the smiles and belly laughs from the simplest things, like peek-a-boo. It just really makes you realize that life doesn't need to be that complicated, it's the little things that make a difference.

Yesterday she waved bye bye to Grandma

She got so angry watching Adam and I eat some macaroni and cheese and not offering her any. I caved and gave her some very small bites of noodles. I stopped and continued eating and she made the funniest face and opened her mouth and made an overexagerated eating gesture that made my Mom and I laugh til we cried.

She is rolling all over the place and trying so hard to crawl, but just does not like to be on her stomach. She can hold on and stand up on her own for a short time.

She is starting to try more solids but mainly just likes bananas.....she is also obsessed with monkeys...hmmmmmm this explains a lot hehe

She knows how to type on the keyboard. She starts with just moving her tiny fingers all over the keys and then gets really excited and starts pounding her hands on it. Last night she changed our screensaver, found a games page and saved it to our favorites. Coincidence??? No, she really is brilliant. And now she has her own keyboard, and she uses it everyday. I think she has the home row mastered.

She loves doing new things and luckily I do too!! I can't wait to go to build a bear and have tea parties and play dress up.....hmmm who's going to have more fun???

She also likes to rock back and forth and bang her head back on things. Daddy calls her his little rainman when she does this haha. We don't want her to be that kind of brilliant!!

She's also been imitating her elmo doll who dances and waves his arms, it's so cute.

She sits and plays for a good 30 minutes with her toys, moving and stacking. It's always so fascinating how children have the most amazing imaginations. I hope you always keep it with you Bayley.

We love you Bayley, keep growing and learning and using that big imagination of yours! Here are some of my favorite quotes that inspire me.

Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try! ~Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Thinks You Can Think!

I paint objects as I think them, not as I see them. ~Pablo Picasso
Imagination and fiction make up more than three-quarters of our real life. ~Simone Weil

Trust that little voice in your head that says "Wouldn't it be interesting if..." And then do it. ~Duane Michals

It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see. ~Henry David Thoreau

Anyone who can be replaced by a machine deserves to be. ~Dennis Gunton

Really we create nothing. We merely plagiarize nature. ~Jean Baitaillon

I doubt that the imagination can be suppressed. If you truly eradicated it in a child, he would grow up to be an eggplant. ~Ursula K. Le Guin

Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought. ~Albert Szent-Györgyi

To think creatively, we must be able to look afresh at what we normally take for granted. ~George Kneller

This past week....

We went to the lovely farmers market and Bayley and I got beautiful flowers from Daddy.
Bayley tried her first organic teething biscuit, very very messy!!
Bayley found a cookbook she liked and will hopefully be cooking us dinner sometime soon. Mommy's little clone!!!
She tried on Daddy's glasses....Daddy's little clone!!
She ate some green beans for Grandma but put most of them on her face!!
She hung out with Auntie Sarah and made lots of funny faces.
She smiles EVERY single time Daddy whistles the Top Gun theme song to her (let's just say I'm hearing it in my sleep!!)
She jumped in her jumperoo like a mad woman, got tons of hugs and kisses from Mommy, Daddy and Grandma.
She was told by two different people in Whole Foods that she was the prettiest baby they had ever seen (one guy was in his 70's!!).
Oh and she tried to leap off the couch......Mom intercepted : )
We are having so much fun watching her grow and learn so much everyday, it's never a boring day with Bayley and she can make ANYONE'S day by flashing her toothless grin at them. Lot's of pics.....they're all so cute.

8 months

Dear Bayley,
I can't believe you are already 8 months old. It seems like just the other day I was watching the ultrasound screen as you danced and wiggled and I couldn't sleep at night because you woke me up every 2 hours kicking my ribs.
You still wake me up several times a night to eat and cuddle, but that's okay because I'm sure when you finally sleep through the night a part of me will be sad and I will probably wake up wondering why you don't need me anymore. Another part of me will be rested, so that is good. I am trying to just drink up every second of every moment with you because you are growing so fast and I am loving every stage and every day with you SO much. You are so much fun and I can't imagine this world without you. You can't even talk yet but already you bring so much joy to so many people. Your eyes are so beautiful, your smile can cure anything, and your pudgy little hands and toes are little delicacies desired by all who see them. I can't wait to see the amazing little person in you grow and flourish. You have a wonderful soul little Bayley, and I love you more than you will ever know.
Love always,
Mommy

some things you are doing

jumping so seriously in your jumper, like it's your job or something
trying to talk/yelling/squealing
sitting perfectly but then lunging forward to try to crawl and getting stuck
trying to pull yourself up while sitting in your bath
eating more solids: avocado, rice, cauliflower (yucky), loves bananas, mango, soup, potatos, sweet potatos
wants to eat everything we are eating
loves the tv remotes and cell phones
wants to put everything in your mouth
stands and holds on by yourself
you discovered miss kitty and would like to chase her if you could
you love looking at yourself in the mirror
you love listening to Mommy sing "thumbkin"
loves peek-a-boo finally
you love splashing in your bath and trying to eat the washcloth??
you don't like to sleep in your crib for long periods of time
you go to bed at 9 or 10 and wake up at 10 or 11 (in between waking 2-3 times)
sometimes I have to jump/dance while rocking you to get you to sleep (you fight sleep bad)
you take 2 or 3 naps during the day
you love going outside
you love to eat your toes (they are delicious!!)
you get bored easily
you love your rainforest monkey
you are loved by ALL

We love you so much Bayley, keep on growing and being healthy and happy!! We are so blessed to have you in our lives. Hugs and kisses

and...

some nice prose with some nice advice:

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.
